Event Overview

The Black River Trail event takes place on Saturday, May 2, 2026. It is the 5th annual edition of the event. The races are held along the fully paved Black River Trail on the outskirts of Watertown, New York. All participants start at the Eastern Entrance of the trail at the intersection of Rutland Street and Route 3 in the Village of Black River.

Race Distances

The event offers several in-person and virtual distances:

  • Black River Trail 5K
  • Black River Trail 10K
  • Black River Trail 15K (Combo) - This consists of running the 5K followed by the 10K.
  • BRT Ruck 5K - A ruck division requiring a minimum 20-pound carry.
  • BRT Ruck 10K - A ruck division requiring a minimum 20-pound carry.

Virtual options are available for the 5K, 10K, and 15K distances.

Course & Features

The Black River Trail is described as smooth, flat, and well-maintained. It offers scenic views and overlooks the Black River. Post-race gathering is at the nearby Garland City Brewery. Awards are given for overall male/female, masters overall male/female, and age group winners.

Registration includes a custom race t-shirt, an official race bib, a custom 2026 finisher medal, free parking, and a digital finisher certificate. Free parking is available at the Black River Drive-In, within walking distance of the start area. Packet pickup is available on race day at the race site.
