Beast of Big Creek

Beast of Big Creek is a skyrunning event held in Hoodsport, Washington on the Olympic Peninsula. The courses climb Mount Ellinor in the Olympic Mountains and start and finish at Big Creek Campground. The event includes a mountain summit route and a forest loop that runs through a Pacific Northwest rainforest along streams and over several wooden bridges. Limited weekend camping is available at the campground.

Distances offered:

  • 22 km / 14 miles climb to Mt. Ellinor summit, over 5,300 ft ascent
  • 8 km / 5 miles Forest Loop, about 1,200 ft climb through rainforest

The Skyrace route reaches the actual summit of Mt. Ellinor and returns to the campground by descent. The Forest Loop covers shorter, trail-based terrain with forest stream crossings and wooden bridge sections.

The Skyrace is part of the Skyrunner World Series and is the tour's only stop in North America. The event is also part of the USA Skyrunner National Series, remains a qualifying race in the Vert Running Series, and provides an UTMB Index entry for participants. The event is organized by Rock Candy Running, which operates multiple trail running events. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
