The Allerton Park Trail Run takes place on October 25, 2026, at Robert Allerton Park and Retreat Center in Monticello, Illinois. The event is organized by Second Wind Running Club and includes in-person and virtual options. Registration opens April 5, 2026. Virtual results can be entered from October 25, 2026 through October 31, 2026.

Course and rules

A large portion of the 5.7-mile course follows the Sangamon River. The trail includes hidden roots, ruts, sharp turns, and other obstacles. The race ends in a meadow. For safety, dogs are not allowed on the trail run or the nature walk.

Awards, shirts and other notes

A portion of race proceeds is donated to Allerton Park for trail maintenance and park improvements; past uses include a safety railing, trail erosion control, recycle bins, a water bottle filling station, and a cafe in the visitor center. The 5.7-mile trail run awards include overall winners and masters winners plus age group awards (top 3 male and female in these groups: 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+). The 2-mile nature walk is non-competitive and receives no awards. Door prizes and a costume contest are part of the event. A deadline to guarantee a race shirt is October 14, 2026. Run scenic single track loops around Clinton Lake near DeWitt, IL through forests, hills and meadows with a bridge connecting the course. Choose the 30 Miler or 10 Mile, enjoy post race food and a long sleeved finisher item.

Enjoy scenic road and trail courses at Allerton Races in Monticello with a Half Marathon, 10K and a nighttime Trail Glo 5K. Proceeds benefit Robert Allerton Park and Make A Wish Illinois, and virtual options are available.
