Allerton Park Trail Run

The Allerton Park Trail Run takes place on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at Robert Allerton Park and Retreat Center in Monticello, Illinois. The event offers multiple participation options and finishes in the meadow near the visitor area where participants can gather after the activities.

Distances include:

  • 5.7 Mile Trail Run
  • 2 Mile Nature Walk
  • VIRTUAL 5.7 Mile Trail Run

A significant portion of the 5.7 mile course follows the Sangamon River and includes natural trail features such as hidden roots, ruts, sharp turns, and other obstacles. The 2 mile nature walk is non competitive and no awards are given for that event.

A portion of proceeds is donated to Allerton Park for trail maintenance and park enhancements. Past uses of donations include a railing at a hazardous spot, trail erosion control, recycle bins, a water bottle filling station, and a new café in the visitor center.

The 5.7 mile trail run includes overall awards for top finishers and age group awards for male and female top three in these groups: 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 plus. Virtual entrants are not eligible for age group awards; virtual results may be entered from October 25 through October 31, 2026. Registration closes on race day, October 25, 2026. Volunteers are needed and participants may also volunteer. For safety, no dogs are allowed on the trail run or the nature walk. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
