Allerton Park Trail Run

The Allerton Park Trail Run takes place on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at Robert Allerton Park and Retreat Center in Monticello, IL. The event is organized by the Allerton Park Trail Run team and Second Wind Running Club.

Event distances and formats:

  • 5.7 Mile Trail Run
  • 2 Mile Nature Walk
  • VIRTUAL 5.7 Mile Trail Run

A substantial portion of the 5.7 mile course follows the Sangamon River and includes natural trail features such as hidden roots, ruts, sharp turns, and other obstacles. The 2 mile nature walk is non competitive and no awards are given for that event. The 5.7 mile trail run finishes in the meadow where overall awards and age group awards are presented; categories include overall top male and female, masters awards, and age group awards for multiple age brackets. Door prizes and costume contest prizes are also part of the event.

A portion of event proceeds is donated to Allerton Park for trail maintenance and park enhancements. Past uses of donations include a railing at a dangerous spot, trail erosion control, recycle bins, a water bottle filling station, and a new café in the visitor center. Volunteers are requested for varied roles and guidance or training is provided as needed. For safety, dogs are not allowed on the trail run or the nature walk.
