Aggies Staircase

Aggies Staircase is a Category AS fell race held in Darwen on Borough Road. The course covers 4 miles / 6.4 km with approximately 1148 ft / 350 m of ascent and includes three main climbs: Jubilee Tower, Jacob’s Mound, and Aggies Staircase. The route starts at the top of Punstock Road, follows a mixture of footpaths and tracks past Robin Hoods cottage, climbs to Darwen Tower, descends through a small quarry and along the main track, then climbs Jacobs Mound before crossing the moor and descending to the foot of Aggies Staircase.

Aggies Staircase is described as the shortest but steepest of the three climbs; from its top the route returns below the Tower and descends toward Sunnyhurst, then retraces steps past Robin Hoods cottage to finish at the top of Punstock Road. Marshals may direct tail runners onto a slightly shorter route if needed. The 2026 line for Jacobs Mound is planned to follow a more runnable line.

Entries open on 1 January 2026 and close on 22 June 2026. The minimum age for entry is 14. Entry fees shown are FRA member £6.00 and non member £8.00. All Darwen Dashers races are held in accordance with FRA safety requirements and rules for competition. A course map is available from the organiser.
