Aggies Staircase - Darwen, 23 June 2026

Aggies Staircase is a Category AS fell race organised by Darwen Dashers at Borough Rd, Darwen (BB3 2SY). The course is listed as 4 miles / 6.4 km with 1148 ft / 350 m of ascent. A waterproof cagoule may be required.

The route starts at the top of Punstock Road green and climbs a footpath before turning right onto the track past Robin Hoods cottage. It then follows an enclosed footpath to the main track and climbs left up to Darwen Tower. The descent goes through a small quarry onto the main track towards the top of Bold Venture Park. Competitors then turn right to climb Jacobs Mound, which will be redirected in 2026 to a more runnable line, continue across the moor top and descend to the foot of Aggies Staircase.

Aggies Staircase is the shortest but steepest of the three climbs. From its summit the route returns just below the Tower and descends back the way it came towards Sunnyhurst. At the gate near the bottom the course turns right and retraces steps past Robin Hoods cottage, then turns left down the path to finish at the top of Punstock Road.

Tail runners may be directed on to a slightly shorter route by marshals. Races are held in accordance with FRA safety requirements and rules for competition. A course map is available on the Darwen Dashers website. Pre-entry is required; entries open 1 January 2026 and close 22 June 2026. Minimum age 14. Entry fees are £6 for FRA members and £8 for non-members. Teams are permitted with mens teams of four and womens teams of three. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
