Event details

Aggies Staircase is a Category AS fell race held on 23 June 2026 in Darwen, England. The course distance is 6.4 km (4 miles) with 350 m (1148 ft) of ascent. The venue is listed as Borough Rd, Darwen, BB3 2SY. The minimum age to enter is 14. Entry is by pre-entry only; fees are listed as £6.00 for FRA members and £8.00 for non-members. Teams are allowed: men’s teams of four runners and women’s teams of three runners. The race has FRA permit and associated UK Athletics insurance.

Course

The start is at the top of Punstock Road. The route climbs a footpath, passes Robin Hoods cottage, and follows an enclosed footpath to the main track up to Darwen Tower. The route descends through a small quarry toward Bold Venture Park, then climbs a rough path known as Jacobs Mound (in 2026 this climb will use a more runnable line). The course continues across the moor to the foot of Aggies Staircase, the shortest but steepest of the three climbs. From the top the route returns below the Tower and then follows the initial approach back to the finish at the top of Punstock Road. If needed, tail runners may be directed onto a slightly shorter route by marshals.
