Aggies Staircase

Aggies Staircase is a Category AS fell race organized by the Darwen Dashers. The course covers a distance of 4 miles (approximately 6.4 km) and features an ascent of 1148 feet (350 meters). The event is open to participants aged 14 and older. The race follows the safety requirements and competition rules set by the Fell Runners Association.

The route begins at the green on Punstock Road in Darwen. From the start, runners follow a footpath and tracks passing Robin Hood's cottage before ascending toward Jubilee Tower. The course then leads participants through a small quarry and onto a main track toward Bold Venture Park.

The middle section consists of a steep climb up a rough path known as Jacob’s Mound, followed by a crossing of the moor top. The third and final climb is Aggies Staircase, noted for being the shortest but steepest ascent on the course. After reaching the top, runners return toward the Tower and descend back along the initial path to the finish line on Punstock Road.
