Aggies Staircase

Aggies Staircase is a Category AS fell race held in Darwen on 23 June 2026. The route is approximately 4 miles (6.4 km) with about 1148 ft (350 m) of ascent and starts on Punstock Road green near Borough Road, Darwen (BB3 2SY).

The course includes three named climbs: Jubilee Tower, Jacob’s Mound and Aggies Staircase. From the start the route climbs a footpath, passes Robin Hoods cottage, follows an enclosed footpath onto a main track and climbs to Darwen Tower. The route then descends through a small quarry toward Bold Venture Park, turns right to a steep path up Jacob’s Mound (the 2026 line will use a more runnable line), crosses moor top and descends to the foot of Aggies Staircase. From the top the route returns below the Tower and then follows the initial approach back toward Sunnyhurst, passing Robin Hoods cottage again and finishing near the top of Punstock Road.

Organiser details identify Darwen Dashers and the event is held in accordance with FRA safety requirements and rules for competition. Tail runners may be directed by marshals onto a slightly shorter route. A course map is available on the Darwen Dashers website. Entries open 1 January 2026 and close 22 June 2026.
