Zanfel Orienteering Race - Hickman
This orienteering adventure takes place on February 13, 2027 at StageCoach Lake, 60th & Panama Road, Hickman, NE 68372. The event is a roughly 15 miles course with a three hour cutoff and uses a loop around StageCoach Lake with the start and finish located at the event check in.
Entries are offered for solo competitors and teams of two or three people in male, female, or coed categories; teams check in together and may travel the course in any direction. CalTopo pre-plotted maps, instructions, and punch cards are distributed at check in. Organizers provide assistance for participants who are new to the sport.
Much of the route follows trails and goes through bushy terrain. If snow is present, Yaktraks or snow shoes may help with traction. Participants should bring a large zip lock bag for maps and race material, a cell phone, water, snacks, sunscreen, and tick spray. A free Handy GPS app may be used for assistance. A day pass can be purchased in the park.
Registration opens November 1, 2026 and closes January 29, 2027. The registration fee is $40 per person and includes long sleeve shirts, awards, snacks, drinks, and medals. This event is the first race in the Zanfel Series and is described as family friendly. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
