Yippee-Ki-Yay Races
The Yippee-Ki-Yay Races take place in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on the Wabash Trace Nature Trail. The event features a flat, out-and-back course on a converted rail trail consisting of 90% crushed limestone and 10% pavement. The course is noted for its views of the Heartland countryside and is designed for participants looking for a fast surface.
Participants can choose from three distinct distances:
- 50 km
- Half Marathon
- 10 km
The event is held at the Iowa West Foundation Trail Head Park, which serves as the start and finish area for all distances. The race has a total field limit of 200 runners, with specific allocations for each distance: 50 spots for the 50 km, 100 spots for the Half Marathon, and 50 spots for the 10 km. All events are chip-timed, and there is a 9-hour overall course time limit.
Aid stations are positioned along the route providing water, sports drinks, and gels. For participants in the 50 km distance, solid food is available at stations after the 10-mile mark. A traditional post-race meal of chicken noodle soup is provided to finishers.
Registered participants receive a finisher medal and a long-sleeve lightweight hoodie, provided registration is completed by the early October deadline. Top finishers in each race distance, as well as winners in various age groups ranging from 18 to 80, receive awards. Packet pickup is held on the two days preceding the event at a local sporting goods store; there is no packet pickup on the day of the race.
