Yankee Springs Winter Challenge
The Yankee Springs Winter Challenge is a winter trail running event organized by Switchback Endurance at Yankee Springs State Recreation Area near Middleville, MI. The event is in its 16th year and is run on wooded, rolling single track trails that use a 10k loop through the park. The loop passes Hall Lake, Devil's Soup Bowl, McDonald Lake, and Long Lake. The race runs in typical Michigan winter conditions and course conditions can vary.
Distances:
- 50K: five laps of the 10k loop.
- 25K: one 5k loop plus two 10k loops.
- 10K: single loop passing Hall Lake, Devil's Soup Bowl, McDonald Lake, and Long Lake.
- 5K: same 10k loop with a shortcut.
Lodging information notes that cabins at the Long Lake Outdoor Center are no longer available for the winter race due to a management change. Nearby lodging options mentioned include the Bay Point Inn and the Gun Lake Casino.
Race entries include a choice of a crew neck sweatshirt or a buff in the race fee. Registrations completed by December 8 are guaranteed a sweatshirt.
