Yankee Springs Winter Challenge

The Yankee Springs Winter Challenge is scheduled for January 2, 2027 at Yankee Springs State Recreation Area in Middleville, MI, with a start location near 10370 Gun Lake Road. The event is organized by Switchback Endurance and is the 16th annual running of this winter trail race.

The course uses a 10k loop of wooded single track that passes Hall Lake, Devil's Soup Bowl, McDonald Lake, and Long Lake. The 5k follows the same loop with a shortcut. The 25k combines one 5k loop and two 10k loops. The 50k is five laps of the 10k loop. The race runs in typical Michigan winter conditions.

Distances

  • 50K: five laps of the 10k loop
  • 25K: one 5k loop plus two 10k loops
  • 10K: the main wooded single track loop
  • 5k: same loop with a shortcut

Lodging options have changed for the winter race. Cabins at the Long Lake Outdoor Center are no longer available. Nearby lodging alternatives include the Bay Point Inn and Gun Lake Casino.

Race fees include a choice of a crew neck sweatshirt or a buff. Registrations received by December 8 are guaranteed a sweatshirt. The finisher award for the winter race is a snow globe. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
