About the race
The Wörthersee Trail Festival is a two day trailrunning and hiking event at the Wörthersee in Carinthia, organised by Naturfreunde Kärnten. The festival offers separate options to run or hike each distance and includes dedicated children’s races and a supporting programme.
Distances offered:
- Ultra: about 64–65 km, 1800 m ascent
- Speed Trail: 32 km, 800 m ascent
- Short Trail: 14 km, 320 m ascent
Course details include starts and finishes at lakeside towns: the Ultra has start and finish in Pörtschach, the Speed Trail runs from Maria Wörth to Pörtschach, and the Short Trail runs from Velden to Pörtschach. Children’s races cover 0.2 / 0.5 / 1 / 1.5 km with start and finish in Pörtschach.
The event is officially recognised under UTMB standards and by the International Trail Running Association. Trails are marked with neonyellow ribbons and GPX tracks are available for download. Aid provision comprises seven stations in total: four full service points with food and snacks, plus three drink stations with water and isotonic beverages. Each race has specified mandatory equipment and pre-start checks. A dropbag service is provided for the Ultra with dropoff in Pörtschach and pickup at Pyramidenkogel. The festival also forms part of the Trail Cup Kärnten series and applies sustainability measures such as no single use cups, public transport recommendations, use of existing trails and waste reduction.
