About the race

Wooler Trail Marathon is held in the Northumberland National Park and starts in Wooler. The event is split across two days and follows routes that pass high open ground with long uninterrupted views and many undulations.

Two distances are offered:

  • Marathon
  • Half marathon

The marathon route includes just over 6000 feet of ascent. All routes will be marked with tape and signs and marshals will be positioned at key points. Navigation remains the responsibility of each competitor and there are checkpoint cut offs; the full marathon must be completed within 9.5 hours.

Entry benefits and on-course support include a bespoke finisher medal, electronic race timing with instant online results, feed stations with water and sweets and more substantial supplies on the longer events, medical cover, free event parking and digital event photography. A bespoke event t-shirt is available to purchase. Prizes are awarded for male and female categories across age groups including Senior, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69 and 70 plus.

Mandatory kit requirements include a whistle, head torch, survival bag, compass and map (OS Explorer OL16 recommended), waterproof clothing, warm layers, minimum 500 ml water, emergency food, a personal cup and a fully charged mobile phone. Basic first aid is available at checkpoints and there is mobile ambulance cover on the route. Race HQ is at Wooler Hostel and event parking is at Wooler Auction Mart.
