Wiley Canyon Ultra
The Wiley Canyon Ultra is scheduled for August 28, 2027 in Lexington, Nebraska. The event offers multiple distances and takes place around Kirkpatrick Memorial Park.
- 35 miles
- 10K
- 5K
The 5K and 10K start and finish at Kirkpatrick Memorial Park and use a mix of paved and gravel roads; these distances are noncompetitive. The ultra is roughly 35 miles, an out-and-back course that begins and ends at Kirkpatrick Memorial Park and travels north through Wiley Canyon. The ultra course was designed to maximize aid stations and to provide an opportunity for first-time ultramarathon finishers.
Course surfaces transition from blacktop to gravel, with a small portion on a minimum maintenance road. Wiley Canyon Road includes hills. August conditions in Nebraska are typically hot with little to no shade, so runners should plan hydration and calorie strategies. Aid stations for the ultra will be approximately 4 to 5 miles apart and will offer Tailwind nutrition, water, and snacks; there are no aid stations for the 5K or 10K. Runners may carry a drop bag to the halfway aid station (around mile 17); drop bags must be clearly labeled.
Rules include staying to the right, following the rules of the road, remaining on or next to the road, and a zero tolerance policy for littering. The ultra is self-supported on course: no outside or crew support is allowed. Shoes are required for all runners. Ultra runners must use headlamps before sunrise with a minimum of 200 lumens; reflective or high visibility clothing is required while running in low light.
Registration closes July 1 at 11:59 PM CT. Packet pick up is scheduled for Friday, August 27 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Grand Generation Center, 407 E. 6th Street, Lexington, NE. All waivers must be signed before the event. The organizer maintains a no refunds policy; optional Refund Guarantee coverage from a third party is available at checkout.
