WILD Wahatoya Runs

WILD Wahatoya Runs is a trail race event in La Veta and Cuchara, Colorado, centered on trails and roads around the Spanish Peaks and within San Isabel National Forest. The event is scheduled for September 26, 2026, and is paired with La Veta and Cuchara Oktoberfest celebrations, with a festival finish at the Cuchara Yacht Club featuring beer, live music, and food.

Three distances are offered:

• 50K: 32.4 miles, 6,709 ft gain, max elevation 11,147 ft
• Heavy Half Marathon: 14.6 miles, 3,199 ft gain, max elevation 10,634 ft
• 8ish Mile: 7.6 miles, 1,626 ft gain, max elevation 9,434 ft

Courses use a mix of low-traffic county roads, maintained singletrack, forested trails, and some private-property access with permission. Notable route features include the Dike Trail and its stairs, Spring Creek and Indian Creek trails, Baker Creek Trail, sections affected by the 2018 Spring Creek Fire, multiple aid stations, water crossings on the 50K, and scenic views of Raspberry Mountain, the Cuchara Ski Resort, and the East and West Spanish Peaks. The 50K starts in La Veta and routes through town before ascending forest trails; the Heavy Half and 8ish Mile start near the Yacht Club on private property and join the Dike Trail to finish under the Yacht Club arch.
