The Wicked Windstone
The Wicked Windstone is a trail running event held at Windstone Landing Farms in Columbia Cross Roads, Pennsylvania. The event features multiple distance options based on a 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) loop. This loop offers approximately 300 feet of elevation gain per lap and traverses mixed farm roads, mowed fields, wooded trails, and pine forests.
Available race distances include:
- 100 Miler (32 full loops plus an initial 0.934 km segment)
- 100k (20 loops)
- 50k (10 loops)
- 5k (1 loop)
The route begins by passing a pond and land bridge before moving into rolling farmland. Participants navigate singletrack trails, dense forests, and a creek corridor featuring a hand-built log bridge. A notable feature of the course is a steep wooded climb known as "The Wall" located near the end of each lap. The final portion of the loop passes through the farmstead corridor and includes an out-and-back segment on Windstone Lane.
A unique event element is "The Wicked Reversal," where an air horn or cowbell signals runners to change direction at the end of their current lap. This rule applies to all distances except the 5k. Participants in the longer distances have specific requirements; for example, headlamps are mandatory for the 100k and 100-mile events. Pacers are also permitted for these two distances after specific loop counts are reached.
The event site includes primitive camping for participants. The central aid station provides water, electrolytes, and various snacks. Finisher medals are awarded for the 5k, 50k, and 100k distances, while 100-mile finishers receive a belt buckle. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
