Whale of Trail : De Hoop trail running event
Whale of Trail is a trail running event held in South Africa’s De Hoop Reserve. The event offers multiple race formats on marked trails and provides route maps and results for each distance.
Race formats listed by the organizer include:
- 53 km Trail Ultra Run
- 35 km Trail Run
- Whale Journey: the 53 km route run over two days with three nights of fully catered accommodation for up to 12 participants
The event material notes a high concentration of Southern Right Whales in the De Hoop Marine Reserve. An official aerial survey in August 2018 counted 1 114 Southern Right Whales in the reserve; on that day whales outnumbered spectators by about 4.5 to 1. The race site includes media resources such as a gallery and race reviews, as well as information on training and accommodation.
