Westmore Mountain Challenge
The Westmore Mountain Challenge is a one-day, point-to-point mountain trail event that visits five summits—Moose, Mount Hor, Mount Pisgah, Haystack, and Bald Mountain—covering about 26 miles with a cumulative ascent of approximately 6,142 ft. The route combines steep singletrack, connector roads, and a final road section that can extend the route to a full marathon distance.
The course includes staffed aid and water stations at the CCC Road Willoughby Overlook, Long Pond (Lunch) station, and Mad Brook station. The Long Pond station is a staffed rest and lunch area with water, food, and a restroom; Mad Brook has a check-in yurt, water refill, and shuttle pickup. A custom trail map is provided in registration materials, and the route is route-flagged at key junctions.
Morning drop-offs use full-size school buses; the ride from campus to the trailhead takes about 45 minutes. Parking is not permitted at the Moose Mountain start; all participants must check in at the trailhead. Registration is limited by permit to reduce erosion and trail impact, so field size is restricted.
Participants are responsible for route navigation and safety. Weather in northern Vermont is variable; the event notes layers, water capacity, and a headlamp for those completing the full marathon distance. Leave No Trace principles and trail stewardship are emphasized. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
