The Wascally Wabbit Trail Race
The Wascally Wabbit Trail Race takes place on the Finegold Creek Preserve in Friant, California. The event moved from its former name, the Wascally Wabbit Half Mawothon, to a trail format and is managed by the Sierra Foothill Conservancy.
Distances offered:
- 10k Trail Run/Walk - 6.2 miles; fee $50
- 7k Trail Run/Walk - 4 miles; fee $50
All race proceeds support Kids Kasa Foster Care and the Sierra Foothill Conservancy. Kids Kasa Foster Care is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) founded in 2004 that works to reunify children with their families and to assist college bound former foster youth in attending community college, four year university, or trade school.
The Austin and Mary Ewell Preserve at Fine Gold Creek protects 718 acres and about 1.5 miles of lower Fine Gold Creek, beginning where the creek flows into Millerton Lake. Fine Gold Creek often does not flow in summer but retains several large pools. The preserve protects riparian habitat and species such as valley elderberry longhorn beetles, western pond turtles, and a southern Sierra population of the Dutchman’s Pipe Vine Swallowtail butterfly.
The venue is accessed from Highway 41 and Highway 145 near Friant; driving time is about 25 minutes from the Friant/Highway 41 on ramp. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
