Warriors Run : Strandhill, Co. Sligo
The Warriors Run is a multi-terrain road and hill race held in Strandhill, County Sligo. The course starts at the Cannon Gun on the Strandhill beachfront, climbs to the summit of Knocknarea (1,070 ft), circles Queen Maeve’s Cairn and returns to the beachfront.
The main competitive distance is a 15 Kilometre route. Around nine kilometres are on paved roads and a central six-kilometre section ascends and descends Knocknarea. That middle section includes a 700 foot climb and runs over fields, loose gravel, unsurfaced tracks and heather paths. The ascent reaches steep inclines where runners often slow to a walk, and the downhill includes often slippery slopes even in dry weather.
The event traditionally attracts about 1,200 competitors who finish at the beachfront and receive a bespoke medal. Strandhill village lies about 8 kilometres west of Sligo town on the Atlantic seaboard at the foot of Knocknarea.
The 2026 edition is scheduled for 22 August 2026. Registration for the 2026 Warriors Run was noted as full; registration for the Warriors Walk and Young Warriors Run opens later in May for that year. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
