Wadsworth Trog
Wadsworth Trog is a local Calder Valley fell race that serves as a long early-season route and requires navigation. The course length is 19.3 miles (31 km) with approximately 3642 ft (1110 m) of ascent.
The event is based at Wadsworth Community Centre, Billy Lane, Old Town, Hebden Bridge, HX7 8RY (Grid reference SD 998285, What3words ///consoles.loads.expect). Parking at the venue is very limited and car sharing is recommended. Public transport options include regular trains to Hebden Bridge and the 595 bus between the train station, town centre and Old Town; the 595 runs about every 30 minutes on a Saturday and stops outside the community centre.
The race is licensed by the Fell Runners Association under UK Athletics rules and is designated a non GPS navigation race. Competitors may use GPS devices to record their route, but electronic navigation aids are not allowed except in an emergency; anyone who uses navigation GPS functions to reach safety must declare as a non‑competitive participant at the finish.
FRA mandatory minimum kit is required. Required items include waterproof full body cover (waterproof jacket with integrated hood and waterproof trousers, both with taped seams), hat (not a buff), gloves, map, compass, whistle and emergency food. Organisers perform a kit check before race number allocation and will not permit those without the correct kit to participate. Due to exposed terrain and the time of year, an extra base layer is advised.
The race uses Sportident chip timing at every checkpoint; the course features thirteen numbered checkpoints plus the finish. Entry is pre‑entry only via SiEntries, with an overall race limit of 200 and very limited entry on the day. Entry fees are listed as FRA members £15.00 and non‑members £17.00.
