VICTORY LANE BACKYARD 12
Victory Lane Backyard 12 is a backyard ultra held in Bussey, IA. Participants run repeated laps of 4.167 miles, completing one lap each hour. The event has a race cap of 12 hours.
Runners must return to the starting corral at the top of each hour to begin the next lap. There will be 3, 2, and 1 minute warnings before the hour. Laps must be completed within 60 minutes. Competitors may not leave the course except to use the restroom. Spectators, crew, eliminated runners, and pacers are not allowed on the course during laps. Personal aids such as trekking poles are not permitted. Slower runners must allow others to pass.
The course begins and ends at the barn and follows mostly grass with some gravel. Runners can expect roots, rocks, and uneven surfaces, and there is a possibility of water on the trail this time of year. Snacks will be available at the starting corral and at an aid station. Upon completing a lap, participants may receive aid from their crew in the designated area.
The crew area is in the open space east of the barn. Crews may bring tents or canopies and must park in designated areas. Access to electricity will be limited. Crew areas must be cleaned at the conclusion of the race; loud music is not permitted and pets should be left at home.
Early packet pick up is available the day before the race and there will be a mandatory pre-race meeting on race day. Registration uses three pricing tiers with increases on May 1 and August 1, a t-shirt add on is available for a fee prior to the August 1 price increase, and there are no refunds or transfers.
The winner is the last person to complete a lap, finishing one more lap than anyone else; all other participants receive results as distance covered or laps completed. If no runner completes one more lap than the others, there is no winner. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
