UltraTrax Wisp Resort

UltraTrax at Wisp Resort is a single-day, timed endurance walking and hiking challenge set in the Deep Creek Lake area of Maryland. Participants have a 10-hour window to see how far they can go on a mountain-built looped course that highlights Allegheny ridges and high-country slopes.

Distances available:

  • 7 miles - one loop
  • 14 miles - two loops
  • 21 miles - three loops
  • 28 miles - four loops

The route combines shaded single-track, punchy climbs, and open ski-trail stretches with sweeping views of Deep Creek Lake and surrounding mountains. One full loop is listed at 7 miles with about 802 ft of elevation gain. The course finishes back at the base after a descent down broad mountain corridors.

Event services include professionally timed tracking, well-marked trails, regularly stocked aid stations, and professional photos. Each participant receives venue-specific swag such as a commemorative patch and a custom T-shirt; finishers earn Trail Wolf or Grey Wolf medals depending on distance. Participants may choose to carry additional weight in a vest or ruck; weights are checked before the event.

The event takes place in spring with an average temperature noted as 61°F. A portion of registrations supports land conservation, and UltraTrax commits to donating at least $10,000 annually to related efforts. Lodging is available at Wisp Resort and the surrounding Deep Creek community offers waterfront and trail activities. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
