About the race

The Tuscany Crossing is a trail running event that stages long-distance courses through the Val d’Orcia in Tuscany, Italy. Launched in 2013, the event follows dirt tracks, woodland trails, meadows, fords and scenic climbs that cross a landscape recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The route starts in Castiglione d’Orcia and passes through the areas of Montalcino, San Quirico d’Orcia and Pienza. Rivers named on the route include the Orcia, Vivo and Asso, and the course runs near thermal sites such as Bagno Vignoni and Bagni San Filippo and features views toward Monte Amiata.

The program includes multiple distance options and is scheduled in April, when meadows and hills are typically green and flowers are in bloom. Aid stations and meeting points provide local food and products typical of the area, such as Tuscan bread, pecorino, cured meats, wine and extra virgin olive oil. Local volunteers and organisations support the event and staff refreshment points.

Route surfaces and scenery vary along the course, offering long silent stretches in the countryside as well as village passages and historic sites including medieval villages, abbeys and Romanesque churches. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
