About the race
The Transruinaulta Trailmarathon is a 42.2 km trail race from Ilanz to Thusis that runs largely through the Rheinschlucht and along sections of the Vorder- and Hinterrhein. The course begins on singletrail close to the young Vorderrhein, contains roughly 1 800 m of ascent and passes through Versam, the Versamertobel and Scardanal before reaching Rhäzüns. After turning toward the Heinzenberg the route follows the Hinterrhein up to the height of Präz, offers a long descent on singletrails along the Heinzenberg and includes a few short climbs shortly before the finish in Thusis. The event is organised as part of a two-day package together with the Transviamala stage on the following day; an overall classification for combined results is offered.
The marathon uses staggered individual starts to enhance the nature experience. Mandatory minimal equipment is recommended because the race takes place in partial autonomy; organisers list a mobile phone with emergency number, a survival blanket and a personal drinking cup among essentials. Time limits apply at intermediate controls and at the finish.
