Dark Skies Run @ Kielder 11
Dark Skies Run @ Kielder 11 is an 11-mile night trail race that starts and finishes at Kielder Waterside and runs north toward Kielder Viaduct before returning to the start. The event takes place within Kielder, a location awarded gold tier Dark Sky Park status in December 2013.
The route is fully marked and marshalled and includes multiple checkpoints at roughly miles 4.0, 5.6 and 7.1. The course details list an ascent of about 818 feet and a descent of about 799 feet. The event has a race-wide completion cut off of three hours.
Entry includes a bespoke medal, electronic race timing and instant online results, feed stations with water and sweets, medical cover, free event parking and digital photography. There are awards for first male and first female finishers and for age categories. A race t-shirt is available to purchase separately.
Medical provision at the event includes first aid equipment at the checkpoint and start/finish area, with paramedic and ambulance cover on site; the nearest local hospital is Hexham General Hospital. Race rules require competitors to carry mandatory kit throughout the event; mandatory items include a whistle, a head or chest torch, a survival bag or foil blanket, hat and gloves, a waterproof jacket, at least 500 ml water, a personal cup, emergency food and a fully charged phone.
