About the race
The Trail Festival du Barrage is a weekend trail event held around the Nisramont reservoir in the Parc Naturel des Deux Ourthes. The event is the 16th edition and features mainly offroad routes with technical terrain: rocky paths, exposed tree roots, steep climbs and fast descents. The organisation notes that more than 95% of the routes are unpaved.
Distances and examples of the programme include:
- 48 km with about 1650 m D+
- 28 km with about 1000 m D+
- 21 km with about 750 m D+
- 11 km, 7 km, and a 3.5 km kids run
A new ultra distance appears on the programme for this edition. Several courses carry a UTMB index: the 48 km is indexed 50k, the 21 km and 28 km are indexed 20k.
A duo format combines trail and kayak: teams run 7 km, paddle 4 km on the reservoir, then run 9 km back; teams must stay together, use organiser kayaks and carry boats at designated transitions. A shallow river crossing is included on the route.
Practical notes provided by the organiser: a new start and finish location in Warempage with a parking area about 100 m away; marked routes with signposts; two main aid stations at the dam of Nisramont and in Nadrin and an extra aid station on the 48 km course; no disposable plastic cups are used so participants should bring their own cup or bottle; there are mobile showers and no bag storage on site.
