About the race
Trail Beer Mile Challenge is a set of one-mile trail races held in Roanoke, Indiana, at UAW Local 2209 Union Hall. The program includes the Beer Mile, Light Beer Mile, Seltzer Mile, and Fireball Mile, each consisting of four laps around a trail loop that is at least 400 meters per lap, with a total distance of at least 1 mile. Trail surfaces permitted are grass, dirt, or gravel.
Before each lap, participants must consume one approved beverage in a nine meter transition zone located between the designated starting line and the finish line. Drinks must be in original cans or bottles of 12 ounces where specified, opened only in the transition zone, and may not be modified. No shotgunning, straws, punctured or otherwise altered containers are allowed. Race officials verify containers are empty by having the participant tip the container into a receptacle; officials may place a 60 second penalty in the penalty box when a container is not sufficiently empty.
Competitors who vomit before race completion must perform one penalty lap and consume one penalty drink immediately after their fourth lap. Participants must be 21 or older and sign an additional waiver on race day. A designated driver is required. Registration fee is $10 per race; registration opens 2026-09-04 and closes 2027-05-16. Proceeds benefit the UAW Local 2209 Veterans Committee, which accepts additional cash or electronic donations at the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
