Tower Tag Challenge

The Tower Tag Challenge takes place in Sleeping Giant State Park in Hamden, Connecticut. This trail running event utilizes the Tower Trail, a path consisting of a smooth crushed gravel carriage road that ascends over 600 feet in 1.5 miles. Participants navigate a loop that begins at a pavilion inside the park and transitions to the Tower Trail after a brief paved section.

The course is a 3.3-mile out-and-back loop. Runners ascend the winding path to the Observation Tower at the top of the park, circle the tower counter-clockwise, and return down the same path to the start/finish area. The event offers two time-based options for participants:

  • 8 Hour
  • 4 Hour

The goal is to complete as many full laps of the 3.3-mile course as possible within the chosen time limit. Only completed laps are counted toward the final result. The event operates as a cupless race, requiring participants to carry their own hydration vessels, such as bottles or packs. An aid station at the start/finish area provides water, electrolyte drinks, and snacks like potato chips, pretzels, and candy.

The event takes place in early December, where average temperatures typically range from the 30s to the 40s Fahrenheit. Finishers receive a specially designed medal and items from event sponsors. Top three male and female podium finishers in each event category receive additional awards. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
