Toughest Alive Hourglass - Seattle

This event on November 7, 2026 takes place at Waughop Lake Loop in Lakewood, WA and is organized by Toughest Alive. It is presented as a first annual Seattle-area Hourglass run with separate adult and youth divisions.

The format uses repeated loops and a shared clock. Competitors must complete each loop before a horn sounds to earn another round; each new round is one minute shorter than the previous one. Round 1 is 30 minutes, Round 2 is 29 minutes, Round 3 is 28 minutes, Round 4 is 27 minutes, and so on.

Choose a format:

  • Run: complete a 2 mile loop each round.
  • Hybrid: complete a 2 mile loop then perform 10 judged burpees at the start/finish.
  • Ruck: complete a 1 mile loop each round carrying required weight.
  • Walk: complete a 1 mile loop each round.

Youth divisions use the same format and may race in Run, Ruck, Hybrid, or Walk. Ruck weight requirements: adult men 30 lb; adult women 20 lb; ages 12–17 carry 15 lb not to exceed 15% of bodyweight; under 12 carry 8 lb or 15% of bodyweight, whichever is less. Ruck weights are dry weight and may be checked before, during, or after the event. Every athlete under 18 requires a parent or legal guardian to sign the waiver and remain onsite and reachable.

Each division crowns its last athlete standing. If all remaining athletes in a division miss the same horn, the athlete who travels farthest during that round is declared the winner. The course provides aid-station support, a repeatable loop, and an onsite start/finish area where competitors return between rounds. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
