Toughest Alive Hourglass - Idaho
This event in Meridian, ID on November 21, 2026 uses a repeating-loop hourglass format where each successful round shortens the available time by one minute. Round 1 begins with 30 minutes; Round 2 is 29 minutes; Round 3 is 28 minutes, and so on. Each round must be completed before the horn; leaving early does not count as a finished round.
Distances and formats:
- Run: 2-mile loop per round.
- Hybrid: 2-mile loop plus 10 judged burpees at the start/finish.
- Ruck: 1-mile loop per round with required carried weight.
- Walk: 1-mile loop per round.
Youth divisions use the same format. Ruck weight requirements:
- Adult men: 30 lb.
- Adult women: 20 lb.
- Youth 12–17: 15 lb, not to exceed 15% of bodyweight.
- Youth under 12: 8 lb or 15% of bodyweight, whichever is less.
Ruck weights are dry weight and exclude pack, water, food, and consumables; rucks may be weighed before, during, or after the event. Every athlete under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian sign the required waiver; that adult must remain onsite and reachable while the youth competes. The event offers aid-station support, a repeatable course, music, and on-course encouragement. Hourglass registrants receive a code for 50% off a separate Friday-night GRIT event that uses one-mile rounds and burpee broad jumps. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
