Toi's Challenge : Julian's Berry Farm and Cafe 2026
Toi's Challenge is an annual trail event in Whakatāne, New Zealand, held on Sunday, November 15, 2026. The main route follows the Nga Tāpuwae o Toi track, a trail named after a Māori chief who lived in the area about 800 years ago. The course offers coastal and bush scenery and includes rugged terrain with just under 1000 metres of elevation gain.
The event is organised by the Whakatane Athletics and Harriers Club and offers multiple participation formats. Distances and formats listed for 2026 include:
- 18 km individual run
- 18 km walk
- 18 km two-person team relay
- 6 km run
Entry fees vary by event and registration period. For the 18 km individual and walk options, published tiers include early bird, normal, and late prices. The 18 km team relay shows per-runner pricing. The 6 km entry has a standard fee and a late entry fee. Entries appear to be limited by available spots for each category.
The course length and elevation make the event distinct from standard road races, and the terrain includes sections of coastal track and native bush. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
