Titanic Challenge Trail Run
The Titanic Challenge Trail Run takes place on 5 September 2026 in the mountains around Clarens in the Eastern Free State. It is a one-day trail running event through mountain trails, farmland, and protected natural areas.
Routes are waymarked and supported, with a stated focus on safety and organisation. Distances offered are:
- 5 km Fun Run
- 10 km Waterfall View
- 21 km Sky Contour
- 35 km Titanic Challenge
- 50 km Mighty Maluti
Longer routes include sections across private game and livestock farms, and more than 30 km of route are accessible only on race day. Parts of the course pass through private and protected areas, so dogs are not allowed.
The event was established in 2022 and is organised by Clarens locals and volunteers. It is hosted by the Clarens Village Conservancy and directs funds toward the Clarens Nature Reserve. Entry fees support reserve protection and upkeep, employment through the ranger programme and local job creation, environmental education for schools and community groups, and accessibility initiatives including the Free State’s first wheelchair-friendly nature trail.
Entries close on 26 August 2026 or earlier depending on ticket sales. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
