The Tide Race
The Tide Race is a trail running event on Tresco in the United Kingdom that uses a temporarily exposed sandbar to link the island to Bryher. The main event is a 10 km course that crosses the sandbar, follows a full circumnavigation of Bryher, and returns across the sandbar to Tresco. There is also a 2 km kids and family race that crosses to Bryher and back.
All participants must wear an official Scilly60 event vest so race staff can distinguish runners from the public. Runners who register early will receive a technical vest to keep; later registrants will be issued a swimrun vest to borrow. Footwear is mandatory for the water crossing. Water depth is expected to be no deeper than thigh level for most runners and may be deeper but below waist level in certain conditions.
There is a strict two hour time limit for the course. Any runner who finishes the Bryher loop with less than 15 minutes remaining will not be permitted to start the return crossing because of the incoming tide. Participants must make their own travel arrangements to and from Tresco; daily tripper boats run between islands and boat travel is not included in the event fee.
