Thunder Mountain Challenge, Camdenton MO
The Thunder Mountain Challenge is an inaugural running event held in Camdenton, MO on October 3, 2026. The event is capped at 75 runners and offers three formats that reuse the same out and back course on Bridal Cave Road.
Course and formats:
- The Bridal 5Kave, approximately three down-and-up repeats to reach about 5K.
- The 3 hour challenge, scored by total completed climbs.
- The 6 hour challenge, scored by total completed climbs.
Each repeat includes about a half mile descent and a half mile climb. Each climb gains approximately 300 feet of elevation. Most of the route is on asphalt along Bridal Cave Road with a short gravel section on the lower portion.
Logistics and rules: There is a single aid station and the official check-in location at the top of Thunder Mountain inside the Thunder Mountain Park Event Center. A check-in captain will track climbs in real time and a live scoreboard will display standings. Winners in the timed challenges are those with the most completed climbs; incomplete climbs when time expires are not counted toward totals. Drop bags are allowed for the three hour and six hour challenges at the start/finish area.
Safety considerations note that the descent is steep, the course remains open to traffic, and pets and headphones are not allowed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
