Three Castles 50km Race

The Three Castles 50km is a point-to-point trail ultramarathon of 50 km that follows the Medway Valley Walk from Rochester to Tonbridge. The route begins beneath Rochester Castle and finishes with a full lap of the athletics track at Tonbridge School Centre. The course is predominantly flat and follows riverside towpaths, public trails and some quiet country lanes, with a number of road crossings. Runners pass three medieval castles, locks, bridges and varied Kent countryside.

Four staffed aid stations are on course at The Friars, Aylesford Priory (13 km); Maidstone Victory Angling Club (24 km); Branbridges Leisure (34 km); and Racecourse Park (44.5 km). Aid stations provide water, soft drinks, Tailwind Nutrition, sweet and savoury food, fresh fruit and items for different dietary needs; female hygiene products are available on request. The event uses professional chip timing and live GPS tracking. A finisher’s medal is awarded to runners who finish within the official cut-off.

Entry includes a fully marked course, medical support, bag transfer from start to finish, finish village with refreshments and awards for the top three male and female finishers. Mandatory kit includes a mobile phone, minimum 1 litre fluid capacity and a reusable cup; other recommended items include a waterproof jacket and sun protection. The overall race cut-off is nine hours. Runners must be at least 20 years old, stay on the marked course, complete the challenge on foot and follow event rules including a zero tolerance litter policy.
