The Tick

The Tick is a point-to-point wilderness ultramarathon held on May 1, 2027 in Alexander Springs, Florida. The course follows singletrack on the Florida National Scenic Trail through the Ocala National Forest between Kirkpatrick (Rodman) Dam and Alexander Springs State Park.

The event covers about 57.5 miles, composed of 50 miles plus 7.41 mandatory bonus miles. The route passes through lakes, prairies, marshes, and tall-growth pine and hardwood forests, offering an extended backcountry trail experience. Pop-up aid stations are planned at roughly 10 mile intervals, but aid availability may be limited by course access.

Trail and weather conditions can include humid and hot temperatures, wetlands, uneven surfaces, dense vegetation, and abundant wildlife. Reported animals along the route include deer, bobcats, black bears, hawks, eagles, scrub jays, rabbits, snakes, turtles, and ticks.

Logistics note that the race is point-to-point and participants must arrange transportation to the start and from the finish. Runners may participate with a crew or under an unsupported option that was trialed in 2026; unsupported runners must carry sufficient water, nutrition, required gear, and means of communication. All participants must carry a reliable communication device and must notify race staff if they withdraw. Participation is capped at 50, there is no registration fee for this Old School FAT ASS ULTRA, and a suggested donation of $25 per participant is requested to support the Florida Trail.
