The Ridgeway Relay

The Ridgeway Relay is a team relay organised by Marlborough Running Club along part of The Ridgeway national trail. The Ridgeway trail covers 86.5 miles from Ivinghoe Beacon in Buckinghamshire to Overton Hill near Marlborough. The relay is run over ten legs, with individual leg lengths varying from 5.4 miles to 11.0 miles.

The race route leaves The Ridgeway itself about 2 miles before Overton Hill and continues across Fyfield Down to the finish in Marlborough. The course is described as scenic, hilly and off-road. Teams are responsible for their own route planning and support on the day, and entrants are advised to recce their leg in advance.

Team composition rules require at least two legs to be run by female runners; for "mostly ladies" teams, up to two legs may be run by male runners. Competitors may run more than one leg but must complete whole legs and make all changeovers at the designated locations.

Teams compete for a team trophy based on the shortest total time to complete the course. Cut-off times are applied on some legs to ensure the race finishes by 8 pm; missing a cut-off does not disqualify a team but may result in the next leg starting before the previous runner arrives.

The Ridgeway Relay is scheduled to return on 27 June 2027. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
