The Ridgeway Chase
The Ridgeway Chase is a 60 km point to point ultramarathon that follows the first section of the Ridgeway National Trail. The route starts at Ivinghoe Beacon within the Ashridge Estate and finishes at Ridgeway View Campsite near Wallingford, crossing the Chilterns and North Wessex Downs with ridgeline and woodland sections. The course has about 1000 m of elevation gain.
The race is held alongside the longer Ridgeway Challenge and is fully marked for 2027 using orange arrow markers and ribbons. Navigation support includes permanent Ridgeway signage supplemented by race signs and a downloadable GPX file. Open tracking is provided during the event.
There are four staffed checkpoints located along the route at approximately 17.6 km, 27.9 km, 41.1 km and 54.8 km. Checkpoints supply water, a selection of drinks and snacks, Precision Fuel & Hydration products, pre made sandwiches, fresh fruit and basic facilities; hot water is available at the third checkpoint. Runners may drop a bag at the start to be transported to the finish.
The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association and held under UKA rules. Entry is restricted to runners aged 20 or over, the field is capped at 150 runners and the overall time limit is 10 hours. Required kit includes a charged mobile phone, route access via GPX or map, at least 1 litre of water capacity, a foil blanket, a reusable cup, nutrition and payment method.
