The Ridgeway Chase
The Ridgeway Chase is a 60K point to point ultramarathon that follows the first 60 kilometres of the Ridgeway National Trail. The route starts at Ivinghoe Beacon within the Ashridge Estate and finishes at Ridgeway View Campsite near Wallingford, traversing ridgelines, woodland and sections within the Chilterns and North Wessex Downs. The course lists over 1000 m of elevation and has a 10 hour time limit.
For 2027 the route will be fully marked with orange arrow markers and ribbons. The event uses open GPS tracking and benefits from permanent Ridgeway signage supplemented by additional race signs where navigation is less clear. Maximum field size is 150 runners and the minimum age to enter is 20. The race is licensed by the Trail Running Association and held under UKA rules; it is also an indexed race for the UTMB World Series.
There are four checkpoints on the route: Wendover Church (17.6 km), Whiteleaf (27.9 km), Aston Rowant (41.1 km) and Nuffield (54.8 km). Checkpoints provide water, cola, Precision Fuel & Hydration products, snacks, pre-made sandwiches and fresh fruit; hot water is available at CP3. Pre-race coach transfers to the start are offered and parking is available at the finish.
Runners must carry required items for the whole event, including a charged mobile phone, GPX or map access to the route, a minimum 1 litre water capacity, a foil blanket or survival bag, a reusable non collapsible cup, nutrition and payment method.
