About the race

The Jackalope Lope is a trail running event organized by Redding Trail Alliance at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area on October 17, 2026. The event offers multiple course options that use steep and rocky singletrack, dirt roads, and lake-side trails. Organizers provide marked courses, aid stations, food and beverages after the race, and coordination with park staff to keep trails accessible. All proceeds support local trail maintenance. A valid National Park Pass is required to enter Whiskeytown.

Course highlights:

  • 8.5 miles - road start then rugged singletrack on Brandy Creek Trail, traverse Rich Gulch, technical descent to the finish.
  • 20.5 miles - south shore road to Carr Power House aid station, Mill Creek dirt-road climb, Boulder Creek and Papoose sections, return via Brandy Creek.
  • 32.5 miles (52k) - follows the 20.5 mile route then climbs Panther Gap and Kanka Peak, with about 6,400 feet of estimated elevation gain and a token at the peak to verify passage.

Additional notes include a no-drop course preview covering about 9.5 miles and 2,200 feet of elevation, an early packet pickup the day before, drop bag service on the 20.5 mile course, and a post-race BBQ. Runners planning to pre-run should expect possible trail issues until park clearing is complete. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
