The Howling Ghost Trail Race
The Howling Ghost Trail Race takes place on September 26, 2026 at Springwater Conservation Area in Aylmer, Ontario. This is the fourth edition of the event and it uses trails through the Carolinian forest of Springwater. Trails are described as mostly wide, groomed, and runnable.
Distances and formats:
- 8 km one loop of the course.
- 16 km two loops of the 8 km course.
- 24 km three loops of the 8 km course.
- 8 km night race run at night, headlamps are mandatory.
Additional options allow running a day race and returning for the night 8 km as a combined challenge.
Timing and race operations are electronic; each competitor receives a timing chip attached to the bib. Aid and facilities: there is an aid station near the start/finish/interloop area, hydration options on course, and access to the aid station every 8 km. The event is cupless: participants should bring a cup or bottle. Public washrooms are provided at the start/finish/interloop area.
Swag and awards: day race entrants receive a combed cotton long sleeve tee (men's or women's cut) if registered by September 1; night race entrants receive a toque. All finishers receive a custom finisher medal with different colours for day and night. Race photos are available for free download. Camping is available at Springwater. A portion of event proceeds will be donated to the Children’s Health Foundation. The event is sanctioned by Athletics Ontario.
Refund policy: there are no refunds. Withdrawals before August 26 receive a 100% race credit; withdrawals after that date receive a 50% race credit. Bib transfers are not permitted. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
