About the race
The Howling Ghost Trail Race takes place on September 26, 2026 at the Springwater Conservation Area in Aylmer, Ontario. This is the fourth edition and offers day and night options through the Carolinian forest at Springwater.
Distances available include:
- 8k one loop of the 8k course
- 16k two loops of the 8k course
- 24k three loops of the 8k course
- 8k Night Howl night version with headlamps mandatory
The course is described as mostly wide, groomed, and runnable. The event uses electronic timing by Chiptime Results with the timing chip attached to the bib. Aid and washroom provisions include an aid station near the start and finish with hydration and food options, access to an aid station every 8 km, an on-course hydration point, and public washrooms at the start/finish area. The race is cupless; participants should bring a reusable cup or bottle.
Day race registrations include a combed cotton long sleeve race tee with choice of men's or women's cut. Night race participants receive a toque. All finishers receive a custom finisher medal with different colours for day and night. Free downloadable race photos are provided. Awards are given to top finishers in each gender category where at least three runners compete.
A portion of event proceeds is donated to the Children's Health Foundation. Camping is available at Springwater. The event is sanctioned by Athletics Ontario.
