Highland Ultra

The Highland Ultra is a 125km coastal mountain ultramarathon on the Knoydart Peninsula in the West Highlands of Scotland. The route crosses rocky mountains, broad glens, rivers and high lochs and is bounded to the north and south by the sea lochs Nevis and Hourn. The location is remote and is reachable only by boat or on foot. Wildlife in the area can include sea and golden eagles, red deer, otters, dolphins and occasional mink whales.

The event is staged over three race stages in three days within a four day event schedule. Base camp and the finish are at Longbeach, Inverie, and the race starts in the village of Inverie. Competitors may travel to and from the race by boat. Accommodation is in tents and places available are limited to 90 entrants. Runners may enter as solo competitors or as teams of two, three or four.

Logistics include GPS tracking, manned checkpoints with a qualified medic and drinking water at approximately every 10km, hot water for food preparation at camps, transfers, storage and carriage of luggage, and race kit and rules supplied in the race information pack. Competitors must carry the items on the mandatory kit list throughout the event. The entry fee covers a race T shirt, finishers medal, photographs and a donation to a woodland carbon offset project. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
