The High Desert Howler
The High Desert Howler is a backyard ultra held in Rawlins, Wyoming on September 5, 2027 at Rochelle Ranch Golf Course. The event is run as repeated loops rather than a fixed distance; each loop measures 4.17 miles and includes about 100 feet of elevation gain. The loop surface is mostly crushed asphalt with a few short sections of concrete, and the course is described as runnable and non technical.
The start and finish are next to the club house near the practice green. Friends of Rawlins Outdoor Group will staff an aid station offering a selection of drinks and foods commonly provided at ultra events. Runners may use crew support; a crew area will be provided on the east side of the club house. Crews may set up tents no larger than 10' by 10', there will be no available electricity, power banks are allowed, and generators are not permitted. Cooking in crew areas is allowed subject to local fire restrictions. Parking is available in the golf course main lot.
The event is organized in support of Friends of Rawlins Outdoor Group, founded in early 2026, which works on multi use trail development, park maintenance and a community demonstration garden, youth outdoor education, and monthly community recreation activities. Entry fees are non refundable and non transferable, and any remaining funds after expenses will be donated to support FROG's mission. Swag details are pending.
