The Hebden
The Hebden is a volunteer run winter fell event held on the moors above Mytholmroyd with a single mass start and registration at St Michael’s Parish Church, HX7 5DS. The event is organised by the 12th Halifax Sea Scouts and is run by volunteers. As a health protection measure there is a strict no nuts rule inside the HQ at any time due to a severe allergy.
Two route options are offered:
- 15 miles classic Hebden route
- 22 miles full distance with extra distance and additional climbing
Staffed checkpoints are provided for safety. A halfway checkpoint offers water, sweets and sandwiches; HQ food is available before and after the event. Results are published but the volunteer run event does not issue formal places.
Practical information includes a registration process at HQ and a requirement to report back at HQ on return. Entrants must not park at St Michael’s Church; recommended parking locations are Caldene Avenue car park, Hebden Bridge town centre car parks, or any legal, considerate street parking. Noise should be kept low in the early morning.
Suggested kit follows FRA Mandatory Minimum as a guide and includes waterproof body cover with taped seams and a hood, hat and gloves, physical map and non electronic compass, whistle and emergency food. For urgent medical situations call 999 first then inform the event team. Participants are expected to carry out litter and be courteous to other path users. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
