Hardmoors 55
The Hardmoors 55 is an ultramarathon of 53 miles from Guisborough to Helmsley that follows much of the Hardmoors110/Cleveland Way route across the North York Moors and the Cleveland Hills. The route passes landmarks such as Roseberry Topping and the Three Sisters and includes about 7,545 ft / 2,300 m of ascent. The event has a 16 hour time limit and compulsory checkpoint cutoffs at Kildale, Clay Bank, Osmotherley, White Horse and the finish.
The race uses numbered checkpoints with basic food and water at most points, and two non-returnable drop-bag locations at Kildale (11 miles) and Osmotherley (30 miles). Organisers provide a compulsory tracker for all runners. Relay teams are permitted with two to four runners and must supply vehicle back-up; relay entries are included within the overall entry limit of 350 participants.
Runners must carry a specified set of mandatory kit for the whole event. Required items include a race vest or large bumbag, hat and gloves, spare warm layer, waterproof jacket with taped seams and hood, waterproof trousers, full running tights, headtorch, map, whistle, survival bag, foil blanket, minimum 1 litre of drink, and a charged mobile phone. Missing mandatory items can incur time penalties or disqualification. Rules limit where support crews may meet runners and require adherence to course signage and marshals.
