The Hamsterwheel

The Hamsterwheel is a multi-duration running event held in New Boston, New Hampshire. Participants navigate a 4.0 mile loop that begins near the Hillsborough County Fairground entrance. The course follows the New Boston Rail Trail along the Piscataquog River to the turnaround point at Lang's Station. The route then returns via the trail and follows a gravel service road around the perimeter of the fairgrounds. The terrain is described as largely flat and scenic.

The event offers several individual and relay options based on time limits rather than set distances:

  • 30 hours individual and relay
  • 24 hours individual and relay
  • 12 hours individual and relay
  • 6 hours individual and relay

Timing is managed via chipped bibs at the start and finish line. Runners aiming for 100 miles, either individually or as part of a team, are eligible for a commemorative belt buckle. For the relay events, each team member registers separately under a shared team name.

A central aid station is located at the start and finish area, providing water, electrolyte drinks, energy gels, and various food items such as fruit, soups, and pasta. Participants in the longer durations are provided with specific meal options for dinner and breakfast. While tents, canopies, and RVs are permitted on the grounds during the event, camping is not allowed before or after the race window. Pacers are permitted for the 12 hour, 24 hour, and 30 hour events after dark, though they are not allowed for the 6 hour duration. Runners in the overnight categories are required to bring their own headlamps. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
