The Furnace BYU : Backyard Ultra, Dalby QLD, February 2027
The Furnace BYU is a Backyard Ultra held in Dalby, Queensland. Runners complete repeated loops of 6.706 km. Each loop must be finished within a 60 minute window; when the bell sounds the next loop begins. The race continues loop by loop until only one runner remains.
The course is nearly flat with under 20 m elevation gain per loop. The event takes place in February heat with average daytime peaks around 38°C, overnight lows near 22°C, and possible days above 42°C. Organizers describe daytime loops as the hottest and night loops as affected by sleep deprivation rather than terrain.
Event services include an assigned 3×3 m space for each competitor, base camp access with toilets, water, coffee, electrolytes, snacks, merchandise options, and professional event photography. Race results are published after the event. Competitors receive a token when their race ends and the final runner receives a distinct token.
Mandatory gear requirements listed by the event are a head torch suitable for night loops, a charged mobile phone, and water to take on every loop.
