Dragon Coastal Races
The Dragon Coastal Races comprise three coastal running events held on 31 July - 1 August 2027 that follow large sections of the Wales Coast Path between Rhossili and Cardiff Bay. The courses use primarily clear, non-technical trails and combine beaches, sand dunes, shingle, forest singletrack and parkland.
- 100 miles from Rhossili Bay to Cardiff Bay
- 50 miles from Kenfig Nature Reserve to Cardiff Bay
- 50 km from Ogmore by Sea to Cardiff Bay
The routes pass named landmarks including Worm's Head, Mumbles, Margam Park, Kenfig Sands, Porthcawl, Merthyr Mawr dunes, Ogmore Castle stepping stones, Nash Point Lighthouse, Atlantic College, Llantwit Beach, Porthkerry Park, Barry, Penarth Pier and the Cardiff Bay Barrage finishing at the Norwegian Church and the Scott Memorial. Approximate total ascent for each course is provided: about 3056 m for the 100, 1073 m for the 50, and 831 m for the 50 km.
Navigation is supported by Wales Coast Path signs, additional running arrows and reflective tape where the route leaves the coast path, plus a downloadable GPS file. Checkpoints provide hot and cold drinks and sweet and savoury food; there are 11 checkpoints on the 100, 7 on the 50 and 4 on the 50 km. Cut-off times apply at checkpoints and a compulsory kit list must be carried by entrants. Transport options are provided between Cardiff Bay and the various start locations.
