The Cheshire 100 Ultra Run
The Cheshire 100 is a new ultra-distance race that covers the heart of Cheshire including Manchester. It is a continuous 100 mile event that starts in Northwich and follows the traditional Cheshire canal ring route in a clockwise direction.
The route runs along no fewer than six different canals. It is described as relatively flat, scenic, and easy to follow. The course uses canal towpaths and the established canal ring layout to create a single continuous route around the area.
The event is organised by New Era Community boxing, a registered community interest company based in Northwich. The club has offered training and support for young people across the area since 2011. A lead coach completed the canal ring route in 2020 and raised money for Cheshire young carers, which helped shape the event’s creation and aims to promote the canal ring.
The first running of the Cheshire 100 saw persistent wind and rain through one afternoon and night, followed by clear conditions the next morning. Several participants completed their first 100 mile distance or recorded their furthest ever distances. The race is scheduled again for 5th and 6th September 2026.
