The Bad Thing 2026
The Bad Thing 2026 is a point to point trail race in Huron County, Ontario, held along the Maitland Trail and finishing at Auburn Riverside Retreat in Auburn. The event offers two distances.
- 50K starts in Goderich and finishes at Auburn Riverside Retreat.
- 25K starts roughly at the halfway point of the 50K and finishes at Auburn Riverside Retreat.
The course is mainly single track and highly technical, with possible muddy sections, plus small amounts of road and groomed trail. Participants should be prepared for demanding terrain; the race is not intended for inexperienced trail runners. Because the race is point to point, participants must meet at Auburn Riverside Retreat to check in and ride a mandatory bus to the start. The bus includes the race briefing and rules; no one may race without completing this check in and transport.
Minimum age is 18 years. Post race food and swag are provided, including barbecue chicken, pulled pork, a vegan option, a Culbert's Creampuff, a race shirt, beer or cider with non alcoholic choices, fresh pressed juice, and other food and beverage items. Registration opened May 1, 2026; listed fees were CA$140 for the 25K and CA$150 for the 50K. The event is currently shown as sold out. All sales are final and fees are non refundable and non transferable; if the event is cancelled and not rescheduled fees, less online registration fees, may be applied to next year. Proceeds support local charities. Fundraising has raised CA$2,690 for The Maitland Trail Association against a CA$1,000 goal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
