Talan's Notorious Trail : Widemouth Bay, Bude
Talan's Notorious Trail is a timed endurance event built around a scenic 5-mile loop at Widemouth Bay. The main formats are 6, 12 and 24 hour events run as Solo, Pair or Team entries; teams may include three to eight runners. The main timed events require competitors to be aged 20 or older. A new age 16 plus single-loop race and a Cub Fun Run for ages 4 to 15 are included in the weekend programme.
The loop is approximately 60% trail and 40% tarmac, with three short road sections and about 307 ft of elevation per lap. The route passes coastal viewpoints, a nature trail to the Weir and returns beside Bude Canal. Ankle timing tags are used and a live results feed is provided. Full event medical cover is available throughout the 24 hour period.
Camping is included from Friday evening until Monday for the competitor, one adult and children under 16. The event field adjoins the Bay View Inn; campervans and caravans are welcome but there are no electric hook ups. Portaloos are provided but there are no showers. Quiet hours apply overnight and open campfires or BBQs are not permitted.
Race safety rules require awareness of road sections, no dogs on course, and equipment for night running such as a headtorch and a rear flashing red light during hours of darkness. All surplus funds raised by the event support Talan's Trust, which focuses on childhood cancer awareness, research funding and services for siblings and teenagers affected by cancer.
