Take it to the Lake
Take it to the Lake offers three event distances at Cave Lake State Park: a half marathon, a 10K, and a one mile kids fun run. The courses traverse the Schell Creek Mountain Range and finish at Cave Lake State Park. Distances:
- Half marathon
- 10K
- Kids fun run (one mile)
The half marathon starts in Duck Creek Basin, climbs about seven miles to Success Summit, then descends to the finish. The route is predominantly on gravel road, passes through aspen and fir trees, and has a total elevation gain of about 1,604 feet. Start elevation near 7,415 feet and peak elevation near 8,968 feet are listed. Aid stations are spaced approximately every two miles, with water only at the first two aid stations and water plus Gatorade starting on Success Summit. Nutrition will be available near the summit.
The 10K begins near Success Summit and is primarily downhill on gravel road, finishing at Cave Lake. The kids fun run is a one mile out and back on a paved road at the state park; children receive an event shirt, finishing medal, race bib, free BBQ, and a raffle ticket.
Additional event details include chip timing with the chip attached to the bib, a required state parks parking permit for most vehicles, a shuttle operating from the Cave Springs Loop parking lot, clothing drop bins, restroom availability at the finish, and no dogs or strollers allowed on course.
