Taitonga South Island Orienteering Championships 2026
The Taitonga South Island Orienteering Championships take place over three days in the Tasman District around St Arnaud and Tapawera. The programme features a sprint event in the rural town of Tapawera, a long distance event at Teetotal Flats West in the Nelson Lakes area, and a middle distance event at West Bay in Nelson Lakes.

- Middle Monday 26 October West Bay St Arnaud Nelson Lakes
Terrain varies between events. Tapawera is a small town with parks, playgrounds buildings and sports fields. Teetotal Flats mixes public conservation land and leasehold forestry with open river flats native scrubland and beech forest. West Bay contains kanuka and mānuka scrublands with glacial moraine erratic rock features and river terraces.
Competition maps are printed on waterproof synthetic paper and follow the International Specification for Orienteering Maps. Electronic timing uses the SportIdent system including SI Air plus contactless SIAC capability; backup needle punches and visible control flags are provided at controls. Safety and course conduct information covers wasp and bee presence state highway restrictions river hazards variable alpine weather fire emergency instructions and advice on eye protection. Controls and downloads are managed at the event centre and provisional live results will be displayed at the arena with official results published online.
