Sussex Downs Trail Run : Plumpton Racecourse, South Downs National Park
The Sussex Downs Trail Run takes place in the South Downs National Park, with the event base at Plumpton Racecourse near Lewes. The course is accessible from Brighton, Haywards Heath, Lewes, Burgess Hill and the A27/A23.
There are three route options:
- 21.3 km Half Marathon route
- 15.5 km medium route
- 10.8 km short route
Each route begins with a flattish, tree-lined 3.5 km section before a sustained climb to the South Downs Way. The climb leads to wide views over the Sussex countryside, Seven Sisters Country Park and distant sea vistas. Runners follow a loop on firm trails toward Brighton, return to the South Downs Way, then descend from the hilltop and finish with a flat final 3 km.
Event services include chip timing, water stations on course, course marshals, first aid cover and a signed route. Finishers receive a medal, a drink and finisher goodies; a personalised certificate is also provided. The event operates a plastic free policy and asks participants to bring a reusable cup or bottle for water stations.
The route uses clear signage and caution markers at hazards and road junctions. Spectators are welcome at the event centre and along the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
